Bubble Watch: Has Bud Selig Killed the Dodgers’ Bubble Machine?

(5:36 pm eastern) Update:

(original post) At this point, it may only be rumor, but several sources on social media are reporting that Bud Selig, Commissioner of Baseball and Decommissioner of Fun, has pulled the plug on the Dodgers blue bubble machine.  One MLB tweet referencing the bubble machine that once had an animated gif, now just has a broken image link.  Coincidence?

While I have yet to see anything resembling an official report, I felt this would be an appropriate time to remember the bubble machine and its role in bringing the team from 9.5 games behind the Giants to 2.5 games ahead of them.

A bubble machine retrospective from your posts…

While the Dodgers might not be able to bring the bubbles to us, maybe we can bring the bubbles to them?

What do you think about the death of the bubble machine at the hands of a lame duck commisioner?

Waking Up a Winner! Ethier and Ellis Get Home Winning Run.

After a string of agonizing, embarrassing games against the Cubs and a heartbreaking, humiliating pummeling by the Angels, it was sure nice to see a Dodger victory last night. And I did actually get to see it, courtesy of MLB network.

Best of Social: Dodgers vs. Angels 8.5.2014

Here we go again. Which Dodgers team will show up tonight?  The club that struggled against the hapless Cubs and looked like the Bad News Bears against the Angels?  Or will it be the team that ran the table against the Giants and Braves.  I know which one I’d like to see.  If anyone has the shoulders to throw everyone else on his back and carry them forward, it’s Clayton Kershaw.

I’ve brought together the best comments, pictures and coverage of tonight’s game to bring you the fan’s perspective.  I hope that tonight, we can all be happy with the result.

Will Zack Greinke help get the Dodgers’ rotation back on track? Can the team create the kind of offense that will be needed to keep up with Mike Trout and the Angels?  After the disappointing series with the Cubs, can this team play like World Series hopefuls? Post game note:  Ugh. I know you can’t win them all, but do you have to lose like this?

Doesn’t it seem like we were just here!?! It’s only been about 13 ½ hours since I wrapped up the last Best of Social! But it’s Sunday and that means we get a great afternoon game. Tonight’s matchup is the last in this series against the pesky Cubs. I hope we see a rejuvenated Josh Beckett take a little pressure off the bullpen today. For the Cubs, it’s old friend Edwin Jackson.  Should be a good matchup.  In better news, Puig and Gonzalez are back in the lineup for the Dodgers. And, we only thought we were joking when we said someone should put Andre Ethier’s picture on a milk carton. Well, it worked, he’s back in the lineup tonight, too.

Now onto the game through the eyes of the best fans in baseball.

Dodgers vs. Cubs August 2, 2014

Post game note: Good grief… five hours to take down the Cubbies in 12 innings. Some great tweets and pictures from some great fans and a lot of ninja turtle masks on a special promo night.  Special thanks to Hanley Ramirez for letting me go to bed and to @dannahyer for this tweet to cap off the night.

So, that game last night was just a bad dream right? Saying “you can’t win them all” sounds really trivial, but it’s honestly true.  I just wish the losses weren’t quite as much as a spectacle as that adventure last night.  Tonight’s lineup lacks some familiar faces (Puig and A-Gon), but has some interesting characters (Van Slick and Turner). Looking forward to watching Ryu try to steer the ship back in the right direction. Now, for the game through your words and pictures…

Dodgers vs. Cubs August 1, 2014

Post game note: Best part about that game… it’s over.  Put the ball in Ryu’s hand and hope the Dodgers find their feet again.

Another night at home in Chavez Ravine.  The Braves are gone, but here come the Cubs.  After three great games that showed the Dodgers finding ways to win in ways that they couldn’t earlier in the season, we enter the weekend stretch against Chicago. Will there be a let down? How scary will Dan Haren be?  Can Hanley get back on track? Lot of questions that will continue to be answered as we tangle with the Cubs.

But now, it’s time for Dodger baseball.  Watch the game through the words, pictures and videos of fans like you!

Welcome to Dodger Stadium

Dodgers Beat Braves, Win 6th in a Row and Kershaw Remains Amazing

It’s a good time to be a Dodger fan. Seems every night they take the field, something amazing happens – so often, though, that it’s easy to take for granted.  That’s one of the reasons I wanted to create this blog – to celebrate the moments that should have time to be appreciated. Last night, we had plenty of those moments.

The number one thing that can’t be taken for granted is the steady brilliance of Clayton Kershaw.  We are spoiled to have a man like that taking the mound every fifth day.  Here are just a few reasons why.

I mean, seriously.  Who does stuff like that?  We are watching history with this kid.

In a 2-1 game, there also has to be some great defense.  Last night, Dee Gordon put on a show at 2nd to remind us that he’s not only a new player at the plate, but also a legit second baseman!  Dee has come a long way, to say the least.  This year’s Dee Gordon would slap 2012-13 Dee Gordon in the face and ask what the hell he was thinking. We’ve all been rooting for him to become the player he could be.  Now we’re watching that happen and it’s so much fun.

And then you had Yasiel Puig take the whole team on his shoulders and provide the runs for the victory.  He just keeps on performing, despite the rest of the world hoping that he fails. I’m just glad the Wild Horse is part of our stable and that he never gets too tame.

To read what smarter people have to say about last night’s game, here are a few recaps:

Looking forward to the Cubs tonight.  See you on Twitter!

Dodgers vs. Braves 7.31.14

Post game note: Another great game for Kershaw.  Puig continues to impress and amaze.  Love this team.  Glad it stayed together through the trade deadline.

After two solid wins against the Braves, tonight’s biggest news is not:

  1. The Dodgers going for the sweep of the three-game series
  2. The Dodgers attempting to win their sixth straight for the first time this year
  3. Baseball Hercules, Clayton Kershaw taking the mound

Nope.  The big news tonight for the Dodgers is that there is no news after the trade deadline.  The Dodgers will face the Braves with the same(ish) lineup that has recently become the standard.  Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!  If you can’t get the trade deadline out of your head, take a look at some of the coverage here.  But now, here are your insights, pictures and comments about tonight’s game!
